The wave of bankruptcies in 2009 is carrying over into the new year. The first month of 2010 brought a high number of bankruptcies.

458 Danish businesses shut their doors in January 2010. In January 2009, the number was 417, according to numbers from Statistics Denmark.

The many bankruptcies meant that 1,700 full time positions were lost.

Numbers also show that the wave of bankruptcies is now spreading to older companies. In January, the average age of bankrupt businesses was 7.3 years. That is the highest mean age for bankrupt businesses on record.
